Self-Leadership and Leading Others Requires Honesty and Courage

Last Sunday at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church, I was honored to (1) acknowledge the March 28th No Kings protests, (2) International Transgender Day of Visibility March 31st, and the (3) importance of paying attention to the truth during these challenging times.

Below is an excerpt of what I shared.

🌻 Three things cannot be long hidden. The Sun. The Moon, and the Truth.

This Buddhist saying is a call for Honesty and Courage in the face of misinformation…

Be emboldened by faith.

We are reminded that EVERY soul is blessed and made whole. Transgender Souls, Black Souls, Undocumented Souls. American Citizens kidnapped and detained souls. Stolen 13-year-old girls who have been impregnated while in ICE custody and sent to Texas where they have fewer reproductive rights, souls.

We must attend  to the Truth.

We are interconnected.

What touches one, touches us all. What threatens one, threatens us all.

It is everybody’s fight.

May the Truth in our hearts be our guide. 🌻

I believe that regardless of where we are “on the totem pole” we can each be leaders at every level. Both 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 I mentioned above.

Being honest is the first step. To stretch ourselves, we should seek to be fully transparent. Honesty for some can still include withholding information. In this case, its transparency, not honesty that demonstrates respect and care for those we are in relationship with. Transparency requires more vulnerability than honesty alone. It often also requires us to put or consider others interest above our own.

Courage is also a first step – and to fully lean into courage means being dedicated to seeing it through, despite failure after failure and mistake after mistake.  When we learn through our natural, challenging feelings and beliefs we get closer to our shared goals.

Effective leaders are transparent and courageous.

This week, whether you celebrate Easter or not, this is still a time for a resurrection and renewal of goals that may have gone dormant this winter.

🐇 What will you make of new beginnings?

🐇 What do you want to focus on this season?

🐇 What you focus on will grow. Choose wisely.

Wishing you a WONDERFUL rest of the day and a great upcoming week!

Happy Easter, Happy Spring, Happy EVERYTHING 💞
