Here are two practices you can try:

(𝟭)  𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆: After sharing disappointing news with your team, invite them to brainstorm ways in which this disappointment might have some ‘silver linings’. This creates a positive, optimistic energy and might spark creative ideas despite the circumstance.

(𝟮) 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲: Model what it means to have a grateful mindset. Keep in mind that praising a team member who performed well is a basic standard. If you’re a basic leader, you can stop here. But if you prefer to step up your inclusive leadership skills, take it a step further by naming your gratitude for them as a person, not just praise for the results of their labor.

In addition to praising them for a job well done, express your gratitude to them for being on your team. Ex: “When we hired you/When I met you, “ABC” and now, I’ve had time to really experience just how grateful I am that you’re on our team. It’s not just about your results, but I appreciate how you get them. You bring a unique “XZY” and I appreciate it.”

I also have a third practice that you may find helpful. If you’d like to know, direct message me “3” and I’ll respond with my 3rd actionable practice you can implement to foster a gratitude mindset in your team.
